Hawaii’s hourly minimum wage will increase from $9.25 to $10.10 Jan. 1.
The increase is the final of four incremental increases since 2015, when minimum wage was $7.75.
Lawmakers passed a bill in 2014 to gradually boost the hourly wage in hopes of better aligning worker wages with the state’s high cost of living.
Several other states are increasing their hourly minimum in the new year including Alaska to $9.84; Arizona to $10.50, California to $11, Colorado to $10.20, Florida to $8.25, Maine to $10, Michigan to $9.25, Minnesota to $9.65, Missouri to $7.85, Montana to $8.30, New Jersey to $8.60, New York to $10.40, Ohio to $8.30, Rhode Island to $10.10, South Dakota to $8.85, Vermont to $10.50 and Washington to $11.50.
The federal minimum wage has been $7.25 since 2009.
